Amazon is where I cut my teeth, and it was a great place to learn how to take ideas from prototypes to production. I was also shoved into a world where, a couple of months into my tenure there, I was put on a week-long on-call playing the first line of defense for a creaking monolithic service that was 8 years old at that point. I had a series of great managers who encouraged me to work on what I thought was important and gave me the room to do so, and coworkers who were always willing to collaborate. I will be forever grateful for the people who supported me throughout my time there.
It was at Amazon where I wrote my first service from the ground up, deployed and scaled it up as it got hit by hundreds of thousands of requests a second on peak days. It was where I learned how to be my own product manager, leading a team of 11 engineers to support a larger organizational bug clearing initiative prior to a major service launch. And before I left due to pandemic burnout, I led a project across several teams to improve the controls we had over the rendering of search pages. This involved consulting with teams from across the org, designing the entirety of the project and leading engineers in building the various components it necessitated. It launched successfully shortly before I left.
